Code of Ethics
3 Ideals in the NAEYC and DEC codes of ethics that are meaninful to me:
NAEYC:
1.Recognize and respect the unique qualities, abilities and potential of each child.
~ In my professional life, I try to find at least one interest or positive quality in a child
and connect with them about it.
2. To establish and maintain relationships of respect, trust, confidentiality, collaboration and cooperation with co-workers.
~ I find this ideal very important. Confidentiality is essential
3. To work through education, research and advocacy toward an environmentally safe world in which all children recieve health care, food and shelter; are nurtured; and live free from violence in their home and communities.
~ I strive to learn as much as I can in order to become a better professional in the early
childhood field. In my work, I also try to help parents and children by providing then the
resources to live a better life.
DEC:
1. We shall recognize our responsibilty to improve the developmental outcomes of children and to provide services and support in a fair and equitable manner to all families and children.
~ In my professional work, I try to make sure that a child can learn at least one new concept
2. We shall respect families' right to choose and refuse early childhood special education or related services
~ In my job, its hard when parents refuse our help for themselves and/or their children but as a professional, I have to respect their choices.
3. We shall conduct on going research and field work that is consistent with and builds upon the available cadre of evidence based practices.
~ I strive to continue learning new things about the early childhood field
